Application to Host training for Walk! Bike! Fun! Educators

Deadline for applications to host WBF Training in the Spring of 2024 will be February 19, 2024.

Host Information
By submitting this application you are expressing interest that as a host you will help coordinate with the Bicycle Alliance of Minnesota a successful date, assist in locating a suitable facility for the training, and help coordinate logistics for set-up. Hosts identify and invite stakeholders to the training, and may be identified as a follow-up contact. 

Communities and schools that participate in Walk! Bike! Fun! curriculum training are expected to commit to implementing the curriculum in classes and youth programs. Teachers who attend the training receive seven Continuing Education Units, and their school district may be eligible for substitute teacher reimbursement pay.

Note: Completion of this application does not guarantee your community will be selected to host a training - selection is competitive and based on an internal scoring scale. The Bicycle Alliance of Minnesota reserves the right to select communities based on identified needs, engagement, and geographic distribution.

In order to prioritize resources and services equitably, BikeMN utilizes the Student Transportation Equity for Priority Populations tool to assign a score for Equity. The 2020 MnSRTS Strategic Plan strives to achieve equitable outcomes by developing and distributing tools, resources, and funding that prioritize communities who are more likely to rely on walking or biking for transportation, are more vulnerable to unsafe traffic conditions, or have experienced historic disinvestment.

The equity score uses seven indicators to best identify priority populations in Minnesota, providing a picture of special need for Safe Routes to School assistance, and in order to be more equitable will award application points based on these measures.

Tell us about your diverse youth organizations and educators/schools you expect to attend the workshop. Potential candidates include law enforcement, YMCA/YWCA program coordinators, physical education and health teachers, after-school program coordinators, community education directors, 4-H and Girl Scout/Boy Scout youth leaders. Please include names/titles/emails as available.
List several weeks that would work to hold a training. Please look at your local school calendar for a "No School/Staff Development Day". This may be the best day for the most teachers to attend and not have concerns about substitute teachers. 

Spring trainings can be held the 1st week in April through the last week of June.

Fall trainings can be held the 3rd week in September through the last week of October.

Trainings will be held on Tuesday, Wednesday or Thursdays. Special arrangements can be made for a training on a Friday.

Trainers require the training space be available to them the afternoon prior to the training date to prepare and set-up materials and equipment.
Safe Routes To School context
Explain any experience your community and schools have with Safe Routes to School planning, Complete Streets policy adoption and/or active living initiatives.
Does the school or community have access to a fleet of bikes and helmets for children to use to learn bicycle safety?  If so, please describe.
Host Agreement
This school will be among the champions in the state to grow the pedestrian and bicycle safety curriculum. Five spots should be filled by the host school/community three weeks prior to the scheduled training date. After that time, the remaining spots will be open to other schools and communities outside of the host school district. Important to promote: teachers who attend the training may request substitute teacher pay reimbursement! (8 reimbursements per training on a first come, first serve basis.)
